The Little Guy is at the age where this is the first Christmas that he is beginning to understand everything going on around him. He delights in every strand of lights he sees. Every ornament is a reason for excitement. We have to slow the car down when he sees a decorated house. The wonder on his face when we put up the tree was precious.
We're also introducing him to the very reason we celebrate Christmas. It's a story I've heard since before I can remember. Big Boy and Sweet Girl are very familiar with the story of Jesus and they tell him as well.
This morning, in church, the enormity of our Savior coming to earth was made new for me. God sent his Son to commune with us. He was born as a baby, to grow into adulthood, and walk among sinners. But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. - Galatians 4:4, 5. He came here, for us, the Son of God. He left heaven, a place we can only dream of, to bring us redemption. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. - 2 Corinthians 8:9. Later, he would bear the marks for our sins and die so that we might live. Wow.
I watch Little Guy become so excited over the details of Christmas. I want him to understand what has been done for him, for all of us. I want to see Christmas as he does, for the first time.
For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
