Have you ever been through a time in your life when you felt
God speaking to you, but you couldn’t help but wonder if He was talking to
someone else? Sometimes He nudges, others He whispers. You might be able to
pretend you don’t hear Him for a little while, but He still speaks
The Daddy Guy and I have been down that road a few times
during our marriage. When we thought that we might possibly homeschool, we
thought it was a crazy idea. We decided to try it for a year, because how much
damage could we possibly do in a year? Six years later, and we’re still
homeschooling, taking it year by year. When we were trying to decide whether or
not to add another child to our family, we kept saying that were done. D.O.N.E.
After a year of talking and praying, we
had The Little Guy. He blesses us every single day. The Big Guy and Sweet Girl
wouldn’t know what to do without him.
This time, it’s different. This time feels more like taking a
huge journey, and not knowing where it will take you, or how long it will take
you to get there. We know something good is at the end of the road, but we have
no idea what it will be.
After a year of prayer and discussion, wondering if God is
truly speaking to us, wondering if we were misunderstanding, we are starting a
journey. Our family is going to adopt. From Bulgaria. Yes, really. And most
likely, our child will have some sort of special need. Down Syndrome, hearing
impairment, we’re not certain. All we
know is that this is what God has been whispering, nudging, leading us to over
the past year.
We’ve filled out applications. We’ve started a mountain of
paperwork. We’re excited. We’re nervous. We need prayer. But we know that when
God shows us that little one, we’ll say, “Yes.”
